For more than 16 years The Salvation Army Northwest Community Center has focused on "at risk" youth. This year's luncheon will focus on our Palm Beach County children who are unable to read by the third grade and are at risk of falling further behind in school. The Salvation Army believes in early intervention and we want to identify these children and help them become better readers. We want to provide them with the skills necessary for their success. In some cases, it may be as simple as a pair of glasses, or it could be a language barrier, or the child just needs one on one instruction.
The programs offered at the Northwest Community Center are designed to help children who: have fallen behind their grade level, are vulnerable to their environment, are in need of positive supervision, who might be subjected to peer pressure, who need help focusing or understanding homework and who need help adjusting to and creating healthy relationships.
Some of the current programs are: * AFTERCARE PROGRAM * KIDS AND COPS * L.O.L. (Living Out Loud) * YOUNG LADIES OF GRACE * BOY SCOUTS AND KIDS & COPS * MUSIC * NORTON MUSEUM OF ART * CHAT STEW * INTERNET ESSENTIALS * BASKETBALL CLINIC * FEEDING PROGRAM * BREAKERS PALM BEACH TENNIS PROGRAM * SOPHISTICATED LADIES * ACHIEVEMENT LIBRARY * FAMILY FUN DAYS * COMMUNITY GARDEN * OPEN GYM * DANCE EXPRESSIONS DANCE COMPANY * WEEKEND TUTORING * RIGHT SIDE UP * GAME CHANGE KIDS * UNBRIDLED POWER and many more.
