The apostle Paul wrote, "Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver." (2 Corinthians 9:7 - NIV)

and

"This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord's people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God." (2 Corinthians 9:12 - NIV)

As Christians, we are not under compulsion to give a set amount to the church. We give, recognizing that all of our time, talents and treasures belong to God. We give happily, not to earn God's pleasure, but as an act of faith and worship and to support the work of ministry.
